Anyone any idea how to name this picture? "Lady Raven" sounds so worn out. Didn't we hear "Lady *put-in-some-stereotypical-shit-here*" a million times already? Or "Nevermore/Nimmermehr"... I'm really thankful for suggestions. Anyways; This is the counterpart of my last picture (Click!). I just can't stop drawing lately. I'm so happy I'm finally like that again. I didn't draw this much in years! And I'm planning on my comic like crazy. I'm thinking about designs for mounts, plants, characters, secenaries and more, and I'm slowly working my way to finally get them on paper. I hope this phase won't end again anytime soon. I finally feel productive again, and for once I do this rather for myself than for anyone else. :)

And one more picture I had in mind for years. I must admit, I really miss traveling. When I last visited another country, I was still in collage... Which was 8 years ago. And with every year, I miss tropical beaches, palmtrees and exotic vegetation more and more. Unfortunately I know that I won't be able to go anywhere this year also. And maybe next year. *sigh* But hey, that's one more goal I want to achieve.

The whole picture is done with Copic Markers again. And I didn't forget to take photos this time. Yay! I'm proud of myself because I'm drawing a lot lately. I even think about continuing my comic after over 2 years. Or rather start over new. ;D

Now I've talked about my zoo-adventure so often, I really have to post my best fotos of that day. Kei's mother made even more than I did and they wouldn't have fit into just one post, so check again soon for Claudi's pics. The following fotos were made at Tierpack Hagenbeck (Hamburg, Germany), with a simple digital camera without flashlights. I made some videos too. If I find a nice program to edit videos and sound tracks, I'll probably upload them on youtube. :)

And another picture inspired by my awesome trip to the zoo. They didn't have aras to be honest, but some other kinds of parrots. But I love, love, looooove these colorful beauties. They make me dream of far away jungles, tropical fruits, wonderful flowers and sunshine. It's already July and the weather here is just BAD. And if the heavens aren't willing to send me some sunshine, then I have to get some myself. ^^The lineart took forever. All those little details. But it was really relaxing. This isn't copied/drawn from a photo btw. I googled for references for the head and feathers, but the bird/pose in general is selfmade. And it's colored with copic markers (not pc). :)

My new mini sketchbook (A5). It's just for boredom sketching when I don't want to waste my good paper. Also pencil looks a lot better on this kind of paper since it's a little thicker and has more structure. Hu well,... It's definitely nothing big and not my best either. It's just for relaxing a little and my new anti-artblock-campaign. ;)

I've been to the Tierpark Hagenbeck (the famous zoo of Hamburg) last week. The tropical aquarium is SO worth visiting. I made lots of photos of lemures, crocodiles and fish. The fire fish however was my favorite that day (besides the orang utans and the tigers... and the baby lions... and... XD ). Aaaanyways; I had this idea at the zoo already and yesterday I was pretty bored, so... It's not well planned. The body is totally off because I drew and colored the head first without the intention to add more. But I had lots of fun drawing and coloring this. :3

And even more sketches! I've been drawing my OC Aurore of my Started-Years-Ago-But-Never-Continued much loved Manga "Nocturnal Silence" again. I've been thinking about the story a lot and I really want to start over again and this time not stop after 6 pages. Anyways, here's the re-design of Aurore's outfit. Though I'm planning to change some details, for example the belt, skirt and shoes. But all in all this is it:

My Aurore when she was a child. I really need to practise drawing kids. I don't like her face yet.

I also re-designed my second OC which I used to call Rabi. But I don't like the name anymore, and I prefer his new look.

And some sketches of another OC. She's nameless and I'm not sure if I will add her to the story and if she'll be a side- or a main-character. Maybe she will make an appearance somewhen during the story as a unsuccessfull healer who makes everything worse instead of better.

Yes, I'm still alive! Though I do feel more so now than I did in the last half year. 2011 just isn't my year I guess. But it's getting better,... Or rather I'm working on that. Anyways, I didn't draw anything big since the wanderer pic, but I sketched quite a lot. So here are some pages with random sketches!

After several visits at the orthopaedic specialist and an MRT scan, I finally found out the reason for my shoulder pain: Slipped disk in my neck. I really didn't expect it was something so severe, but it was. Now I got two injections to the incarcerated nerve under a CT and I'm fine. Yay! I could finally draw again (although it was still a bad idea; the pain came back a little after I finished the coloration).

It may not look like it, but the coloring was so annoying. But let's start with the sketch first. It's an old sketch of a picture I drew of my Ragnarok Online gypsy, but never finished. Saturday I woke up and just felt like finally drawing a fanart of one of the new classes. Since arc bishop and wanderer are the only classes I can stand, the choice which one to pic wasn't too hard.

I made some other sketches of possible poses first, but I didn't like them too much. Then I remembered I still had this one lying around somewhere, which I always liked a lot.

I spent a lot of time on the lineart, and I'm pretty satisfied with it for a change. I even cleaned it up in photoshop this time, what I almost never do. But I wanted it to become more perfect than usual. And then....... I messed up the coloring.

I even had to throw away another half finished coloration because I picked the wrong color for the golden balls. On the second try, I realized 4 copics I needed for this picture died on me and I had to improvise with other ones. Then I was nearly finished, but wasn't content with the blue-white hair which didn't come out on the blue-white wings, so I made the wings darker and used too much opaque white pen on the hair and completely messed it up. It made me realize that it was a bad idea to stick to my gypsy's colortheme, just because I was curious how she would look like as a wanderer and then decided to redo the hair in blonde. Thanks to my mother for giving birth to me in the century of computers and Photoshop! I fused them together, and what came out you already saw above.
I'm just still not really satisfied with the end result, just because I had something nicer in mind when I finished the lineart. I should probably color it again, but with Photoshop this time.

Crappy new year! I hope you all had a better start than I did. I have no clue what I did to my shoulder, but it hurts like crap. Can't turn my head, my right arm is a little numb and I'm just in freaking pain here for 5 days already. I wanted to endure it until next monday and visit my family doctor, but I could barely sleep last night and when I woke up this morning, it just wasn't bearable anymore. So I went to hospital.
I have no clue why I always have bad luck with doctors either. At least I got a total moron to examine me again. He didn't listen at all, he gave a shit about where the pain exactly is and how bad it is either. He was like "I had 20 cases like yours the last days already. Go to an orthopaedic specialist." He gave me an injection (he didn't say what he was injecting and not even asked me if I have any allergies. Good work, shithead!) and some pain-killers and sent me home. Thanks for nothing, asshole!
...Sorry for my language, but I'm extremely bilious when it comes to doctors. In all my life, I met like 3-4 good doctors and about 20+ crappy ones. I'm not exactly fond of them.

Anyways, of course he couldn't do anything to cure the problem (even if he had tried to, which he didn't), and so I searched for an orthopaedic somewhere near my place, when I realized google streetview drove through my neighbourhood. I was pretty curious how my street would look like and looked it up. And BANG! There I am!

(Sorry, had to remove the streetnames etc. I rather not have the whole world know where I live exactly. Although I'm sure Google, Facebook and Co. know already anyways.)

Just returning home from the supermarket with my awesome orange REAL bag and my Darkine backpack. How funny... Just 1 minute later and I would have been through the door already. Now that I call a coincidence. X3

So many birthdays lately! This time it's the birthday of a really good friend of Kei and me, Roddl. He stayed over at our place for almost two weeks. We're always having a good time, and when he's leaving, there's always something missing. Anyways, he had his 26th bday on november 30th, and this was one of my presents for him:

Yeah, it's another Ragnarok Online fanart, of his High Priest Masqurin and his Whitesmith Demi. I tried to make the faces in a cuter and less grown up style (which of course was impossible for me to do with their bodies too XD I love giving female figures curves!).

This is a picture for our GM and friend, Cryy. Happy 19th Birthday! It's a fanart of his Stalker from Ragnarok Online with Incarnation Samurai, Gloom under Night and Moonlight Flower, the 3 MVP he found cards from. :O In just 1 year and at 0,1% dropchance. That's really impressive.

The picture is in A3 size again and colored with Copic Markers. Was a lot of work and took me about 2 days. But I'm really proud for once how it turned out. Was hard for me to part from it, but now it's on its way to England and into Mark's hands. :) Take good care of it, sweety!

And it's finished! Though the quality still isn't any better than before, I took some pictures while painting again. I probably should save money for a good digital camera.

I was a bit scared of ruining the picture, so I made some colorkeys first. The upper one wasn't quite what I imagined, so I gave up on that right away and made a second one. I was quite satisfied with it and used the colortheme for the final version.

Oh, and that's my working space btw. Nothing spectacular as you can see. Just a regular (and a bit too small) desk, copics, pens, my pc, scanner, lamps and that's it. I don't get how so many teenies are able to have more copics than I do, have drawing boards and sometimes even light tables, and all that in their bedroom. Did everyone except me have stinking rich parents?

Weeping Lily Meadow Lineart

I'm really diligent the last few days. I just finished this lineart I worked on since yesterday, after coloring the picture below. And it's not only a big surprise that this picture actually isn't just some char in some pose with no meaning, it even has a background and is DIN A3 size instead of A4. What's wrong with me? Hehehe. ;D

I was thinking about my pictures again and why I can't be proud of them. And the answer is simple: Because I do not draw real pictures (just characters). I do not draw anything with a meaning. I do not draw backgrounds. I do not draw anything happening. Just characters. Which aren't even my own. It's just Ragnarok Online, Ragnarok Online and even more Ragnarok Online. Yes, sure, most stuff is for Heavenly Maiden RO where I'm an admin, but this shouldn't keep me from doing something like my Hobbit pictures again.
So... Here I go and just do it for once!

I took some pictures with my mobile cam during the process by the way. The quality is low but probably it's still interesting for you to see.

Frustration

Those items and chars below were part of a job application. I got a refusal because the quality wasn't high enough. I'm angry at myself I didn't do any better than this. I couldn't draw for a few weeks (and those sketchbook posts below are not even half of what I drew... The rest was just so... SO.... Incredibad (yeah, they were so bad, I had to invent a new word for them)).
Guess I can say goodbye to my dream of being a game artist and just go ahead and stay a webdesigner. Why must being an illustrator be so damn hard? There's almost no way to avoid being a freelancer, and I just don't have the character to be one. I'd always be scared of being unemployed over night, when a company doesn't like my work or just don't need me anymore. Also I'd never charge enough money for my work to pay for my appartment, insurances, pension etc. Damn, I wish I'd have some more guts and just do it.

Today, I almost couldn't believe my eyes. This week already is my personal week of strange coincidences, but this one almost beats the other from a few day ago (which I will write about too if everything works out as I hope it will).

Ok, first things first. I'm seeking for a new job lately, and because I don't want to look like a tramp when I get invited, I had to buy some new clothes. So I drove to Hamburg city and went to H&M, passing s.Oliver on my way. Usually, I don't buy clothes at s.Oliver because it's too expensive for my small income, but since I wanted to look good this time and the "fashion" H&M is selling is hilarious, I decided to buy my outfit at s.Oliver anyways. This was the first time for over 10 years (!) that I've even entered this store.

And it was a totally "WTF?!"-moment when I found this shirt:

What's so special about this shirt you ask? This small flower print is stolen! And you know who the original artist is? It's me!

It was originally a tattoo design I did years ago for a a local tattoo studio.
Back then I uploaded it to my devianART galery (Click here for the image on deviantART). What a big mistake. I didn't even put my signature onto the pic because noone looked at my pictures there anyways. My 2nd big mistake. Since then I had nothing but trouble with this design because it was a big success. None of my other pictures got so many favorites, comments or views. And of course hundreds of people downloaded it, uploaded it elsewhere, got it tattooed and did whatever is possible to do with this picture. Most people don't have a clue about copyrights anyways.
An artist automatically has the copyright of his artworks. You are not allowed to copy, reproduce, use or do whatever with a picture without a permission of the artist. Not knowing who the original artist is doesn't allow anyone to go ahead and use pictures for his/her own good. I heard that my design gets tattooed a couple of times on most tattoo conventions, and noone even knows that it's from me! I have no problem with people loving the design and wanting to get it tattooed, but what really bugs me is that noone even knows who drew this, and even worse, that some asshole-tattoo-studios pretend it's their work.

But s.Oliver... That's really shocking me. It's so obviously my design, just a bit alienated, vectored and pretty small, but I recognized it on first sight nonetheless. I can't believe that a big and successful company is paying designers who can't come up with own designs and just go ahead and take the work of others. And it's also shocking what they did to my design, although it's not a big wonder since they won't find my picture anywhere in the internet in print quality.

And just to prove that I am indeed the one and only original artist of this picture, here are a few steps while it was still in progress.

This is the first time I ever posted steps of this anywhere. I still have all steps in their original size (So dear artthiefs, don't even try to think of stealing the steps too. They won't get you anywhere). Gawd, I am SO mad. I wish I could do something about this kind of people. I mean, great! s.Oliver makes money with my design and they will even get away with it, since I'm a noone and since they alienated the design. Good job, s.Oliver! And thanks for my new job application outfit!

My colleague, who I'm designing the newsletter for the onlineshop we're working for with, married last month. She was away for one month, because it was a big Turkish wedding and also because of her honeymoon. I bet it was beautiful, just like in 1001 nights.
She'll be back at work next week and I decided to draw a small gift for her. She mentioned she'd love to be drawn a few times already, and since I will leave the company soon, this is my last chance to do this small favor for her.
Yes, it's kitschy to the bone, but well... That's what dream weddings are like. ^_^

When I was a child Alice in Wonderland was always my favorite book. I just loved the story, the Disney movie and American McGee's Alice (videogame) so much, especially because of the Cheshire Cat. I always felt like I would fit in there perfectly, since I've never fit in anywhere else. I'm just so different,... In a weird kind of way. D:
Today, I want to show you something really funny:

This is also proof for the thesis that everyone can draw. All you need is to have the will to do it and practise, practise and practise some more. Or do you think my so called talent just fell from the sky? No, it didn't. ;)

#2. Age 18.

This one was a big success for me. I joined an anime community back then and this pic was one of the first I uploaded there. The site had a feature called "fanart of the week" and guess who got it right away? Yes, indeed.

Someone actually got this one tattooed! I couldn't believe it until I saw it. And cause the girl asked for another alice pic for her other calf, and I just couldn't say no. She is really sweet.

Some work in progress, although... I guess I won't finish it.

It's always the same with me. I'm satisfied with my work and myself for some weeks, then the usual crisis strikes again.

What kind of artist do I want to be?
Should I change my style? Should I draw more realistic?

Then I get to the point when I realize that I can't, even if I wanted to. Guess I'm not good enough or too lazy to practise to become better. Another reason why I sometimes hate myself.
I'm stuck because I'm scared. If I try, I could fail. So I rather don't try at all. *Sigh*
All I do is make some sketches, sometimes make linearts out of them and color them if I'm in a good mood. No meaning, no feelings in them. That's the main reason why I can never become the artitst I want to be. I can't draw any of the good ideas I have. They always turn out completely different from what I imagined and that's depressing me.
When I'm depressed, I can't draw.
When I can't draw, I can't get better.

I can't even remember how I managed to draw my Hobbit series. These pics are the best I've ever made, and it was all so easy back then. I'm missing the HTK and my teachers Birger and Matthias so much. They both helped me a lot, especially Birger. He could always motivate me and give me some good advise.
The years at the HTK were the best in my life so far. It was the first time I ever fit in somewhere. I felt save and that gave me a lot of strength, and in the end I even had 1 of the best 4 final projects out of ~60 people. I was so damn proud.

Perhaps I just need a teacher again, someone to give me advise, motivate me and perhaps give me some tasks just for practising reasons. Or at least someone to give me a nice, hard kick in the lower back. ;P

Ten days till my "special anniversary". It's been 4 years since it happened. Life can't always be good or bad, it has its ups and downs. It's like a rollercoaster. Everyone makes mistakes. "No such thing as mistaken, just learning from what you're taking..." We should learn from them and keep on living our lives, forgiving ourselves.
But there is this one thing I will never forgive myself.
Just a few words would have been enough to prevent it.
Why? Why didn't I say them?
It's too late to say them now.

I recently discovered a few new fondnesses of mine:
1. Frank Sinatra
2. Steam Punk
3. Drawing with tools/utensils I never used before

So I went right into the post office, bought a big pile of brown wrapping paper and spent half the day with just drawing whatever came to my mind.
I finally have fun at drawing again. During the last year, I often drew just because I felt like I have to, else I would lose my routine. That's one of the worst things that can happen to an artist. If you have a blockade, you may either just put away your pencils for ~2 weeks and wait till you're feeling different or just keep drawing until you break through. But if you didn't draw for months, you need weeks to catch up to your former skills. I won't let it happen to me again.

I have a new idol.
This guy is so incredibly good at drawing, I could fall on my knees and cry a little. Well, not really, but at least I keep thinking of doing so when I look at his artworks. He's even better than Oh!Great or Takeshi Obata. ComiPa on deviantART

Like I said before, it's unfinished. It was a scrap in the first place and I don't tend to finish stuff like that. But I like the outcome pretty much. I absolutely adore his style, but I think I rather draw something like that on my own.

Ich habe nun endlich mein Praktikum geschafft, welches sehr interessant aber auch anstrengend war, und hab nun endlich wieder Zeit zum Zeichnen! Ich hab meine Stifte so vermisst, aber ich hab es einfach nicht geschafft mich noch nach der Arbeit hinzusetzen und etwas zu tun. Selbst die Wochenenden waren immer zu kurz um irgendetwas zu schaffen.
Nach einigen frustrierenden Versuchen etwas aufs Papier zu bringen, hab ich nun langsam wieder eine Vorstellung wie mein Stil gewesen ist - Den hatte ich nämlich im letzten halben Jahr vergessen.
Jedenfalls wird dieser Blog nun das wozu ich ihn eigentlich damals erstellt hatte:

Im Moment arbeite ich an 2 Bildern.
Das eine ist Hrist aus Valkyrie Profile (40% done), und ensteht komplett am PC:

Das andere wird Lenneth (auch aus Valkyrie Profile), das ich noch mit Copics kolorieren will. Dummerweise bin ich jetzt grade zu Hause bei meinen Copics und das Bild liegt schön auf dem Schreibtisch bei meiner besseren Hälfte. Doof.

Was mich aber wirklich stört ist, dass ich mich im letzten halben Jahr nicht nur nicht verbessern konnte, sondern eher einiges verlernt hab. Außerdem weiß ich im Moment mal wieder nicht, was für einen Stil ich eigentlich haben möchte. Die Gesichter werden immer anders, wodurch der Wiedererkennungswert mal wieder leidet. Also mach ich viele, viele Skizzen und Übungen um irgendwann das Richtige für mich zu finden.
